The Garden of the Gods is a small but beautiful Park located just outside of Colorado Springs. The park is easy to navigate and full of amazing red sandstone rock formations that make you feel like you’re on another planet.
The entire Park can be seen by foot so we will generally be bringing all our photography gear with us as we hike. If needed, we can jump by car between the many roadside lots to make your jaunts shorter. There are beautiful rock formation throughout the park which make finding photo opportunities pretty easy.
Pikes Peak is a wonderful backdrop for your photos. The snow capped peak contrasts wonderfully with the desert feel of the red rock formations.
Since the light from sunset can be blocked by the neighboring mountains our best opportunity for photographing Garden of the Gods is at dawn (or late afternoon if it’s a cloudy day). If we decide to arrive later in the day don’t worry, it is still an amazing place to capture landscapes. The western side of the rocks tend to be a bit more interesting, so it’s a balancing act between subject matter and light.
Often you will also be treated to some rock climbers scaling the red towers. These sport photos are really fun. From far away (to show scale) or up close (to show the action), these climbers are great subjects.
Please note that this destination is only available in conjunction with multi-day trips to other destinations (ie: Mesa Verde or Great Sand Dunes)
