Sand Dunes / Landscapes: The Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado is a photographer’s paradise with many opportunities to capture breathtaking images. The towering sand dunes, one of the park’s main attractions, provide an excellent opportunity for landscape and abstract photography. The shifting sands and unique lighting conditions create a dynamic and ever-changing canvas for photographers to explore. From the stark contrast of light and shadow to the subtle textures created by the wind, the sand dunes are a photographer’s playground.

Sunsets: Daily winds blow dust from the plains below high into the horizon creating exceptionally vibrant colors. The warm hues of orange and pink create a magical atmosphere, and the park’s landscape provides a natural frame for the perfect shot.

Zapata Falls: Walk through a cold mountain stream for exciting photographs and a fun place to cool off. These falls offer a unique setting and an ideal spot to capture unique “box canyon” waterfall photos.

North Clear Creek Falls: One of Colorado’s largest waterfalls. Though it does require significant travel time, the falls are easily accessible and offer breathtaking scenery that is perfect for landscape photography.

Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge: If you are interested in bird photography we can take time to visit this unique protected marshland found in the San Luis Valley. It is used as a migratory stopping point for a wide variety of bird including the Sand Hill Cranes.

The park has earned a Dark Sky certification, meaning that it is one of the best places in the world to observe and photograph the stars.
