Engineer Pass is a 20 mile trail which crosses over the San Juan Mountains from Ouray, Colorado to Lake City, Colorado. It is part of the world famous “Alpine Loop” making its way through stunning meadows filled with wildflowers, past waterfalls and old mining remnants, finally reaching the Alpine Tundra above treeline. With a high point reaching 12,800 feet you are assured some truly unique and spectacular views from the top.
Best time of year for visiting Engineer Pass is in August as that is prime time for wildflowers at high elevations. Due to the snowpack which lasts well into summer and begins again early in Fall, this pass is generally only accessible from around late June until late September.
