Roxborough State Park

Roxborough State Park | Rocky Mountains ColoradoThis Colorado natural area is a National Natural Landmark located just outside the Denver area.  The park was established to protect the area's unparalleled scenery and resource values while providing opportunities for hiking and learning about Colorado's natural heritage. Roxborough's spectacular geologic setting supports a unique mixture of prairie and mountain species and makes for one of the best photography shoot locations along the Front Range.  Unfortunately you must remain on park trails, even when taking photographs which can make getting that unique shot a bit difficult.

Wildflowers and Wildlife

Flower Photography and Workshops

There are well over two dozen flower varieties natural to the park and you will have no trouble at all finding them during season as they are everywhere, even directly along the trails (convenient for photos).  The best time to see the flowers is from May through June.  Early June generally being the prime flower month for the front range.

Wildlife include bobcats, elk, bears and a wide variety of birds.  Oh! and lets not forget our slithery friends.  Colorado has a variety of snakes including rattlers which frequent the area.  So be sure to keep your eyes on the trail (which can be difficult with such beautiful views).

Beautiful Hiking Trails

Roxborough State Park | Denver Colorado | Photo Workshops

Hiking trails in the park are well maintained and can be accessed easily from the main parking lot.  There are trails for all fitness levels here.  Very easy trails within the one mile range (even wheel chair accessible to some degree), moderate trails which still allow you amazing views of the rock formations and overlooks of the entire park.  And one strenuous trail about 6.4 miles long with about 2,000 feet vertical which will allow you to view the park from far above.  In fact you can view the entire front range from it's terminal point, Carpenter Peak.

Notes:  The park is open year round; however, the hours will vary with the seasons.  Basically dawn to dusk.  Entrance fee is $6 per car.
